INSTALLATION
NOTICE: Thisrebox in com-
bination with unvented log
sets are intended for use as
supplemental heat. Use along
with your primary heating
system.Donotinstallthemas
yourprimaryheatsource.Ifyou
haveacentralheatingsystem,
youmayrunsystem’scirculat-
ing blower while using heater.
This will help circulate the heat
throughout the house. In the
event of a power outage, you
can use unvented logs as your
primaryheatsource.
WARNING:Aqualiedser-

• where curtains, furniture,
clothing or other ammable
objectsarelessthan42"from
the front, top or sides of the
rebox

• in windy or drafty areas
CAUTION: Log heaters
installedin thisreboxcreate
warm air currents. These cur-
rentsmoveheattowallsurfaces
next to rebox. Installing re-
box next to vinyl or cloth wall
coveringsoroperatingrebox
whereimpurities(suchas,but
notlimitedto,tobaccosmoke,
aromaticcandles,cleaningu-
ids,oilorkerosenelamps,etc.)
in the air exist, may discolor
walls or cause odors.
IMPORTANT: Vent-free gas log heaters add
moisture to the air. Although this is benecial,
installing firebox in rooms without enough
ventilation air may cause mildew to form from
too much moisture. See Air for Combustion and
Ventilation, page 5.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the rebox is level. If
rebox is not level, log set will not work properly.
Note: Your Vanguard rebox is designed to be
used in zero clearance installations. Wall or fram-
ing material can be placed against any exterior
surface on the rear, sides or top of your rebox,
except where standoff spacers are integrally at-
tached. If standoff spacers are attached to your
firebox, these spacers can be placed directly
against wall or framing materials.
Use dimensions shown for rough openings to
create the easiest installation (see Built-In Firebox
Installation, page 9).
INSTALLATION CLEARANCES
WARNING: Maintain the
minimumclearances.Ifyoucan,
providegreaterclearancesfrom
oor,ceilingandadjoiningwall.
Carefully follow the instructions below. This will
ensure safe installation.
MinimumWallandCeilingClearances
A. Clearances from the side of the rebox open-
ing to any combustible wall should not be less
than 8 ".
B. Clearances from the top of the rebox opening
to the ceiling should not be less than 42".
C. When the rebox is installed on carpeting or
other combustible material, other than wood
ooring, the rebox should be installed on a
metal or wood panel extending the full width
and depth of the enclosure.
D. Clearances from the bottom of rebox to the
oor is 0".
CAUTION: Do not install
the rebox directly on carpet
or vinyl.
